SPV Group, the nationwide refurbishment contractors have recently completed the roofing works at Action for Children, Watford. Over a period of 17 years, the building had endured 2 failed single ply roofs which had subsequently been covered with liquid rubber which resulted in saturated insulation over an occupied building.
SPV’s remit was to supply and fix a fire retardant and acoustic barrier was installed overlaying the existing metal roof deck. This assisted with the replacement of the roof covering and negated the need for a temporary roof structure to execute the works.
The provision of a new warm roof system incorporating self-adhesive vapour barrier insulation to all current u values and a reinforced bitumen membrane proved the most suitable system in this instance. A Varsity high performance roofing system was selected and installed in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations and specifications.
The Client is delighted with the works which have ensured that all leaks to the building have been cured and they can be assured of a fully watertight building for their own offices and for their tenants.
We have been working with SPV Group on the re-roofing of the Action for Children Headquarters office building. SPV’s site establishment was extremely efficient and went as planned with scheduled deliveries of welfare units and scaffold erection going to plan and programme causing the client no inconvenience. The welfare units including when delivered to site were clean and tidy and SPV have maintained them to this standard throughout the works to date, the site compound which not only houses the welfare units but also skips and material storage are securely fenced off with clear and visible warning and information notices placed on the fencing. On this project there is the added complication of a fire escape exiting the building via the site compound and SPV have accommodated this in the compound set up with a designated fire escape route existing the compound via a fire escape door in the compound fencing.
SPV have demonstrated a proactive culture to health and safety with their in house systems and training and are work closely with the client’s own health and safety team, to date on this project no health and safety issues have arisen. SPV operatives on site appear to be all knowledgeable in their respective trade and are polite and courteous to the clients team and clients employees when they do come into contact with them. SPV I know have received awards for their involvement in community projects which is indicative of the companies ethos and responsibility to the local community
