SPV are completing the works at The Iceland Frozen Foods Store, Macclesfield. The roof is a traditional portal frame construction consisting of 2 slopes with a ridge. The roof build up was a twin skin trapezoidal roof comprising of an inner liner sheet, grid system, insulation and outer sheet.
There existing roof lights had been covered over with flat plate. The roof had been repaired on numerous occasions in the past with numerous fixings having been coated with some form of liquid coating and all the end laps have been treated for cut edge corrosion.
The roof lights were very dark and brittle due to U V degradation and the roof fixing washers are also brittle and were failing. There was evidence internally of numerous leaks which show with staining on the ceiling tiles.
SPV recommended to oversheet the building to offer a 10 year insurance backed guarantee as follows;
We removed the flat plate covers from the 6 no roof lights and remove from site then the penetrations to roof level were cut down and capped off. A support bar system was supplied and fixed through the existing sheeting and into purlins using TEK screws. SPV supplied and laid glass fibre quilt insulation between the support bars. We then supplied and fixed a 0.7mm plastisol coated steel sheets, fixed down to the support bar system using TEK screws with filler pieces inserted top and bottom of sheet.
We then supplied and fixed new 0.7mm plastisol coated ridge, eaves and corner flashings and new capping’s to the parapet wall.
